हमारे दैनंदिन जीवन में तेजपुंज तथा शक्तिशाली शनि का अदभुत महत्व है | वैसे शनि सौर जगत के नौ ग्रहों में से सातवा ग्रह है; जिसे फलित ज्योतिष में अशुभ माना जाता है | आधुनिक खगोल शास्त्र के अनुसार शनिकी धरती से दुरी लगभग नौ करोड मील है | इसका व्यास एक अरब बयालीस करोड साठ लाख किलोमीटर है तथा इसकी गुरुत्व शक्ति धरती से पंचानवे गुना अधिक है | शनि को सूरज की परिक्रमा करने पर उन्नीसवर्ष लगते है | अंतरिक्ष में शनि सधन नील आभा से खूबसूरत , बलवान , प्रभावी , दृष्टिगोचर है, जिसे २२ उपग्रह है |
